Show Hollywood Beyond the colour of money and they’ll make a hit record out of it!
Birmingham, UK band Hollywood Beyond was the creation of singer and songwriter Mark Rogers, who fronted the band that also included Andy Welch, Steve Elliott, Dean Loren, Mike Burns, Cliff Whyte, Carol Maye and Maggie Smyth at various stages. Signed to WB Records, they released their debut single, “What’s The Colour Of Money?” in the Summer of 1986 and it went to No.7 at home whilst being a top 40 success from Australia to Sweden. The follow up, “No More Tears”, did not follow suit and failed to make the top 40 in the UK. although it reached No.23 in Belgium. The group issued their debut album, “If”, the following year, although it and the singles “Save Me” and “After Midnight” all flopped, despite input from the likes of Bernard Edwards and Stephen Hague.
Hollywood Beyond disbanded soon after and nothing is known of each individual members progress since. Mark Rogers himself turned up as a solo artist in 1989 on the single “Let’s Get Together”, which again failed to chart. Mark does have one further claim to fame, however. He enlisted young singer Mica Paris as a backing singer for the group and later helped her gain a record contract on her own. Mica would go on to have chart hits from the late 80’s to the mid 90’s. Mark founded his own record label in the 1990’s and helps new and emerging acts to get noticed. Now that’s the colour of money!
