About Music Tectonics

Music Tectonics returns to Santa Monica this October, bringing together music industry professionals, technology innovators, startups, investors, labels, artists, managers, and other leaders shaping the future of the music business.

This year’s theme, “A Rising Tide: Growing Music, Growing Value,” focuses on expanding the music economy through innovation, new business models, and technology that creates more opportunities for artists and the companies supporting them.

Across three days, attendees can expect industry panels, keynote conversations, startup pitches, technology demonstrations, networking opportunities, and discussions exploring everything from AI and music rights to fan engagement, royalty collection, and artist financing.

For independent artists and labels, Music Tectonics offers a closer look at the tools and partnerships changing how music is created, distributed, monetized, and managed. It’s also an opportunity to connect with the people building new solutions to longstanding challenges across the industry.

This year, Ed Poston (SVP, Head of A&R at Symphonic) will be attending and joining a panel about the growing opportunities available to independent artists looking to build sustainable careers while retaining ownership of their music.

Ed Poston will be speaking on “Don’t Sell Before You Know Your Options: How Artists Are Growing the Music Economy Without Signing Away Their Rights.”

Symphonic announcement for Music Tectonics featuring Ed Poston, Head of A&R, in Santa Monica, October 27–29.📆 When: Wednesday, October 28, 2026 @ 4:00 PM

📍 Where: Music Tectonics, Annenberg Community Beach House, Santa Monica

For independent artists, access to funding, distribution, marketing support, and career development no longer has to come at the cost of giving up ownership of their music.

As the independent music landscape evolves, artists have more options to finance releases, expand their teams, reach new audiences, and build long-term businesses around their work. From flexible distribution partnerships and alternative funding models to advances and strategic services, today’s music economy offers new ways to grow without automatically signing away valuable rights.

This panel will explore how artists can evaluate those opportunities, understand the trade-offs behind different deals, and make more informed decisions about their careers. The conversation will also look at how the industry can create greater value by supporting artists’ long-term growth rather than relying solely on traditional ownership-based agreements.

For artists and labels considering their next move, it’s a chance to better understand the options available and what to look for when choosing partners who can support their growth.
