Fresh from the buzz of Eurovision week, and marking 45 years since their iconic win, The Fizz release new single A Crazy Shot In The Dark.
A collaboration with legendary hitmaker Mike Stock (Stock, Aitken, Waterman), the song marks the start of a new chapter for the pop act.
Fizz perennials Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston remain the driving force behind the iconic group, who won Eurovision in 1981 with Making Your Mind Up. They are now joined by Matthew Pateman and Nikk Mager, bringing a fresh dynamic to the line-up and a reinvigorated energy that is on full display in their brand-new single.
As Bucks Fizz, their run of hits – including Making Your Mind Up, The Land of Make Believe, Piece of the Action and My Camera Never Lies – alongside platinum albums made the group a constant chart presence. They returned as The Fizz in the 2010s with a series of studio albums, once again working with Mike Stock and building on the sound that first made them household names.
A Crazy Shot In The Dark is Stock doing what he does best: delivering euphoric hooks that hit in waves. There are clear nods to the band’s past chart-toppers, too, but with a fresh modern twist.

Cheryl Baker said: “If you’d have asked me back in the day if I thought I would still be ripping my skirt of 45 years later, I’d have said ‘Don’t be daft!’ But here I am, alongside my partner in crime Jay Aston and our fabulous new-ish guys, Matthew Pateman and Nikk Mager and I’m loving every minute of it! When I’m on stage, I don’t think of myself as an older woman, I think of myself as being part of a group that won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK and I’m incredibly proud of that fact. Let’s face it – not many people can say that!

You can barely make it into the studio without being distracted by the sheer number of gold discs and awards lining the walls. It’s a reminder of the history we’re now adding to. This 45th anniversary single feels like a real moment for us – a bit of a crazy shot in the dark, but those are often the most exciting ones. Mike and his son James have done a fantastic job bringing it all together, and there’s a real energy around it. It feels celebratory, a little nostalgic, but also very much about where we are right now – still creating, still performing, and still loving every minute of it.
