UK Top 40 Singles Chart 27th February 1994 – Talk About Pop Music



So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 21st to Saturday 26th February 1994.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were ten new entrys, nine climbers and three non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Can’t Wait To Be With You”
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince just scrape in with another week in the UK top 40 as they go down five places.

39. Haddaway – “I Miss You”
Doing much better with three months now inside the top 40 is Haddaway, ever though he’s down ten places.

38. Deep Forest – “Sweet Lullaby”
Deep Forest have managed five weeks with this one and they are down twelve having been top ten only three weeks ago.

37. Crowded House – “Locked Out”
Australian band Crowded House manage three weeks with their latest, which dives fourteen places, locking them right out.

36. Motley Crue – “Hooligan’s Holiday”
Our first new entry this week comes from American band Motley Crue and it’s their first since “Home Sweet Home” back in 1991.

35. Sting – “Nothing ‘Bout Me”
No such luck for Sting in week two and the seventh single from “Ten Summoner’s Tales” goes down three places.

34. Funkadoobiest – “Bow Wow Wow”
Funkadoobiest are back with the follow up to “Wopbabalubop” from last year and it’s a re-release of their debut single from 1992!

33. The Proclaimers – “Let’s Get Married”
The Proclaimers still want to get married three weeks on but Craig and Charlie are down nine places with their chart comeback.

32. Michael Bolton – “Soul Of My Soul”
Back with his first new entry of 1994 is Michael Bolton with the follow up to his top twenty hit “Said I Loved You But I Lead”.

31. Jam and Spoon – “Right In The Night”
It’s no go for Jam and Spoon. They turned up last week with this single, but seven days later it’s just a non-mover.

30. FKW – “Jingo”
FKW make their debut on the UK chart this week, but the faces behind it are well known! They are in fact Phil France, Tony King and Paul Waterman, son of Pete and the song is released on dads PWL International label!

29. Atlantic Ocean – “Waterfall”
Atlantic Ocean go down just two places this week with their debut single, getting a third week inside the top thirty.

28. Aretha Franklin – “A Deeper Love”
Once month after Aretha Franklin returned to the chart with this song, she falls ten places out of the upper half of the chart.

27. K7 – “Come Baby Come”
Meanwhile, K7 returns to the lower half of the top 40 for the first time in thirteen weeks, also down ten.

26. EYC – “The Way You Work It”
EYC come back with the follow up to their debut single “Feelin’ Alright” as the three boys hope for a second top twenty chart placing.

25. Cypress Hill – “Insane In The Brain”
Having returned with a much higher chart position with this track last week, Cypress Hill are down four places.

24. Gabrielle – “Because Of You”
Going up four is Gabrielle with the fourth single to come from her debut album which features one of the biggest selling singles of last year.

23. Barbara Tucker – “Beautiful People”
American singer Barbara Tucker comes to the UK top 40 for the first time this week with her first single on the Positiva dance label.

22. Elvis Costello – “Sulky Girl”
It’s been five years since we last saw Elvis Costello in the UK top 40, back in 1989 with “Veronica” in fact, well he’s back with this new entry at long last!

21. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “Two Tribes”
Ten years after this song went to number one, Frankie Goes To Hollywood made a return last week, but seven days on and it’s down five places.

20. SWV – “Anything”
SWV‘s follow up to “Right Here” put them back in the upper half of the UK chart at least last week, but it drops back one place in week two.

19. Level 42 – “Forever Now”
Coming back to the top twenty are Level 42 with their brand new single, which goes up three places, making it the band’s first in three years.

18. Inspiral Carpets – “I Want You”
As quick as anything, the Inspiral Carpets come back with a new entry and the follow up to “Saturn 5” only last month!

17. Wendy Moten – “Come In Out Of The Rain”
Wendy Moten is down another three places this week with her UK chart first, which is still much higher than it did in America in 1992.

16. Beck – “Loser”
American songwriter and performer Beck Hansen-Campbell makes his UK chart debut this week. This is the son of composer David Campbell’s first single to come from his debut album which is out next month.

15. Meat Loaf – “Rock’N’Roll Dreams Come Through”
Meat Loaf was heading back to the top ten last week with highest climber, but one week later and he’s down four places.

14. The Cranberries – “Linger”
Good news though for The Cranberries. They went down last week but come back up one a week later and back to where they were!

13. Celine Dion – “The Power Of Love”
Celine Dion’s biggest UK hit to date has been this cover of Jennifer Rush’s 1985 number one. Six weeks on and she leaves the top ten, down four places.

12. Reel 2 Real and The Mad Stuntman – “I Like To Move It”
Going nowhere this week are Reel 2 Real and The Mad Stuntman with their first hit, which doesn’t move it at all.

11. The Smashing Pumpkins – “Disarm”
The Smashing Pumpkins made their UK chart debut last year with “Cherub Rock” and are back much higher than that one reached and not only that, it is this week’s highest new entry!

10. Suede – “Stay Together”
Suede scored their biggest hit last week and the highest new entry with this song, which drops seven places, seven days later!

9. Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting – “All For Love”
Bryan, Rod and Sting went back up last week with this triple vocaled hit, but go down again, three places, in their eighth week on the chart.

8. Cappella – “Move On Baby”
Cappella do that this week. Their latest went down three places but they come back up two as they get moving again.

7. Elton John and RuPaul – “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”
Elton John and RuPaul’s version of Elton and Kiki Dee’s 1976 number one climbs six places, which makes it this week’s highest and returns the song to the top ten.

6. 2 Unlimited – “Let The Beat Control Your Body”
2 Unlimited continue climbing, this week they are up two with their best performing single since “Tribal Dance”.

5. D:Ream – “Things Can Only Get Better”
The former number one from D:Ream moves off second base where it’s been for the last two weeks and goes down three.

4. Toni Braxton – “Breathe Again”
Another song going back up the chart this week is this one from Toni Braxton as she climbs one having been on the chart for two months now.

3. Enigma – “Return To Innocence”
And that also goes for Enigma, they are back up one and back into the top three with their biggest hit in three and a half years.

2. Ace Of Base – “The Sign”
Powering up five places are Ace Of Base with their new entry of last week. But could it be number one for them this time next week…?

1. Mariah Carey – “Without You”
Mariah Carey is number one, however, for a third week running with her biggest UK hit so far and she is also number one on the album chart with “Music Box”! But can get go a fourth, or will Ace Of Base, Enigma, Toni or someone else take over? There’s only one way to find out…
