Spotify has introduced Spotify Artist Profile Protection (APP), a new feature that gives artists more control over which releases appear on their profiles. Now, we’ve added support for Spotify’s Artist Key feature for Symphonic clients, making it easier for eligible artists to automatically pre-approve their releases.
Here’s how it works…
What Is Spotify’s Artist Profile Protection?
Artist Profile Protection is an optional feature in Spotify for Artists designed to help prevent unauthorized or incorrectly attributed releases from appearing on artist profiles.
Sometimes, music ends up on the wrong artist’s page because of incorrect metadata, artists sharing the same name, or someone intentionally attaching their music to another artist’s profile. These mistakes can affect an artist’s catalog, streaming statistics, and how their music is recommended to listeners.
With Spotify’s new APP feature, participating artists receive notifications when new music is delivered under their name and can decline releases that don’t belong to them. Declined releases won’t appear on their profile, contribute to their statistics, or show up in recommendations to their listeners.
The feature is currently available to a limited group of artists through Spotify’s beta program. Invitations come directly from Spotify, so Symphonic cannot enroll artists on their behalf.
Once an eligible artist opts into the program, they gain access to three tools in Spotify for Artists:
- Approvals Tab: A place to review releases, approve or decline them when applicable, and view releases that have already been pre-approved.
- Artist Key: A unique identifier that can be included in a release’s delivery metadata to automatically pre-approve it for the artist’s profile.
- Notifications: Alerts whenever a release is delivered to Spotify listing them as an artist.
What does this mean for Symphonic clients?
Symphonic now supports including Spotify Artist Keys in release deliveries, allowing artists enrolled in APP to automatically pre-approve their new releases without additional manual steps in Spotify for Artists!
For example, if you’re enrolled in APP and preparing to release a new single, you can add your Artist Key to SymphonicMS before submitting the release. When Symphonic delivers your music to Spotify with that key, the release is automatically pre-approved for your artist profile.
This helps enrolled artists keep their release process running smoothly while maintaining control over which music is associated with their Spotify profile.
How to Add Your Spotify Artist Key in SymphonicMS
If Spotify has invited you to Artist Profile Protection and you’ve opted into the program, here’s how to add your Artist Key:
- Log in to your SymphonicMS account.
- Navigate to Catalog → Artists.
- Select the artist profile you want to edit.
- Find the Spotify Artist Key field and enter your unique key.
- Save your changes.

Once you save, Symphonic will include your Artist Key in new release deliveries to Spotify.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
APP only applies to new releases delivered after you opt in. Releases uploaded before you joined the program aren’t subject to APP, even if they’re redelivered with updated metadata.
Your Artist Key needs to be included in the delivery. Without it, releases follow your applicable Spotify approval settings instead of receiving automatic pre-approval.
APP is currently invite-only. Artists who haven’t received an invitation from Spotify won’t be able to activate the feature yet.
Take More Control of Your Spotify Artist Profile
Spotify’s Artist Profile Protection gives artists another way to monitor the releases associated with their name and reduce the impact of incorrect or unauthorized uploads.
For Symphonic clients already enrolled in the program, adding an Artist Key to SymphonicMS helps streamline future releases while keeping that added level of oversight in place.
