WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Peter Andre – Talk About Pop Music

He wanted to get closer to a mysterious girl…feel the flava of Peter Andre!

Peter Andre was born in London in 1973 but his family moved to Australia when he was six and so it is easy to class him as Australian born. As a teenager, he entered talent contests and aged 16 he made his TV debut on the Australian version of New Faces. He didn’t win, but he was spotted and signed up as a recording artist. Peter initially worked with Stock Aitken Waterman engineers and producers Phil Harding and Ian Curnow on his first songs, releasing “Drive Me Crazy” in mid-1992. The track was only a very minor success but the follow up, “Gimme A Sign” went to No.3. His self-titled debut album followed in 1993, achieving Gold status and produced two further hit singles, “Funky Junky” and “Let’s Get It On”.

Peter upt the production on his second album, which followed a full three years later and was preceeded by the single “Mysterious Girl” in the Summer of 1995. This became his break out hit and not only did it put him back in the top ten down under, he went top ten globally scoring his very first UK chart hit where the song peaked at No.2. After the Australian top five hit “Get Down On It”, a cover of the Kool and The Gang song, Peter cemented his success with two consecutive number one’s the UK with “Flava” and “I Feel You”, both in 1996 while the album, “Natural”, would top the UK chart and receive a Platinum disc. His success in Australia now ‘petered’ out as he toured Europe and the Far East enjoying further hits in 1997 with “All About Us” and “Lonely”, both from the album “Time”.

Peter dropped out of music at the end of the 1990’s and became headline news when he started dating model Jordan, aka Katie Price. They married in 2004 and to celebrate, a new recording of “Mysterious Girl” with Bubbler Ranx was released, taking Peter back to the top of the UK chart for a third time. His revival continued with the top three hit “Insania” and he released the album “The Long Road Back” soon after. Peter and Katie recorded the Disney song “A Whole New World” in 2006 taking it to No.12 in the UK, exactly where Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle’s original had peaked in 1993. Peter and Katie separated and divorced in 2009, the same year he returned to the studio to record the album “Accelerate”. He was back in the singles chart with “Defender” (UK No.14) with the album itself going Platinum in the UK.

Peter has continued to record and release material with albums coming in 2012, 2014 and his most recent, “Come Fly With Me”, in 2015, which went top five in the UK. Peter has focused his career in TV in more recent years, hosting various daytime shows and popping up on reality TV shows. In 2023, he joined GBNews as a presenter, but seems to have given up on music, for now that is. Peter is due to become a father again in 2024, the second with his wife Emily whom he married in 2015. Will it be a mysterious girl or a boy though…?(!)
